Ideal dAv5 Launch, Poll: Votes counted! - by Vincent Brown ( °attila )
Todays Message: deviantART, Inc. is NO LONGER run by high school kids?

Please contribute to the poll with a thoughtful response, thank you.

That's right, the votes are in... and I think now would be a good time to recap my latest Journal Poll. I'll withhold my personal thoughts and analysis of the poll results until I get a discussion going between those of you who visit my journal and poll. Here's a news post i submitted about why major website re-launches & re-designs should be more thoughtfully executed.

So, in the graphic above you see the numbers and what they represent. 156 People, from various walks of dA-Life (some of them I know, some of them I don't) have contributed their responses. What do these numbers say to you? Do you think deviantART, Inc. listens to its members? Do you think deviantART, Inc. does what is right for its members? Do you think the official dA Poll asks the right questions? Do you think my poll asked the right question? Which comments do you agree with, which do you disagree with? Do you think there is any justification for deviantART, Inc. re-launching its website in a haphazard manner, without apology? (deviantART, Inc. has stated that they "planned" for dAv5 to be launched the way it was... do you buy that?)

Very much so. I really agree when Jason Fried says it's better to build half a product, instead of a half-assed product.

On another note, how the fuck do I edit my friends list?!

Wow. That's an awkward position. Oh well, at least it's less awkward than it used to be...

if you think that's awkward, you could alternately, click the icon in the right corner of the dA header.. "the guy with the led next to it" then click the PLUS-SIGN. :|

Ahahah, oh my god, that's classic. I was aware of the drop-down showing your friends list, which is quite nice, but that?!

I think on this poll I was one of the people who voted for on the birthday and buggy. Call it a bit of nostaligia, but as I can recall that has always been the way dA has launched new versions. Also, call it a bit of sucking up to agree with their decision in the public view, while I really felt they should have delayed it and held out for better quality.

I do have to say that you cannot hold them entirely at fault as they are doing the best job that they know how or can do, or so we have been told.

True, we really don't know the capabilities of deviantART... but I was made to believe deviantART has made significant strides since ousting Jark, and turning over a majority of their volunteer staff for paid, full-time employees. For me, I think I had a hightened expectation based on what I just mentioned, as well as all the hype that precluded the buggered re-launch. $spyed's justification (linked in my journal) for the result of the re-launch didn't give me much hope for the future either. I understand they can only do what they're capable of, but they also can't fault people for criticizing them when they advertise something that they don't deliver.

Thanks for participating in the poll ;)

Ah first off thank you for the very quick reply.

I agree with the heightened expectations. I also held some. I think one thing that might have kept me from being as let down about it as some others was the hype. Like most things the more hype, the more it's just trying to fill in what it isn't going to give. It's all about getting you to think of it in that way.

I do agree that if they say they are going to deliever something that they should and as for the justification, I would much rather have something that is done full up and respond to that than something that is barely there.

yeah it should've been well implemented and less buggy before the launch... and the news system, especially, whould've first taken in as a pilot project before launching that feature :hmm: all the news system is now is a spammers playing field
