So, by now you've probably noticed or heard that deviantART's original Co-Founder / Co-Creator, Scott "°jark" Jarkoff has had his status changed a bit. He's now indicated to be a Former Staff Member. Like myself, °matteo, °arc, °tack & °dygel and countless others (most occuring in the past year). This is my preliminary thought on the issue (as an official announcement hasn't been made public):

"I'd say there won't be much noticable change immediately. The feeling most of us have towards the site will shift. When I learned that °jark was now "former staff" it came as a slight shock, though I suspected something like this was coming, just never thought it'd happen this soon. Hopefully, like a few other former staff members, he continues to be as active in the community as he was when he was on staff. I'll miss not having his influence amongst the core staff ranks, knowing that he'll do anything for the community. One thing that can be said about °jark is that he has the WHOLE community behind him. He's known throughout the community as a trustworthy person, who puts community first and has a passion for the site and the people. It's why he's so loved, and makes this revelation that he's left the staff that much more painful."

Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love (and Sisterly Affection, holla). The home of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which has hosted works by Salvador Dali and Edvard Munch. Also the home of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, one of a handful of nationally accredited art schools in the United States. And hey, it houses a handful of deviants too!

Over the past weeks, myself, `bornghost, and =yokom have been planning this event, the very first Philadelphia devMEET. We are still working out the details, however, here is the basic game plan:

Location: Philadelphia Museum of Art
Date: August 6th, 2005
Time: 11:00AM EST

A walk-through of Old City
Lunch or dinner at a restaurant/sports bar
A trip to the art museum
°attila's giving away deviantART Prints in conjunction with a yet to be determined activity

Not necessarily in that order, of course, but that's what we want to do. This is one hell of an opportunity to meet deviants local to you, and not just local to Philadelphia either. We already have deviants planning to come in from New Jersey, Maryland, and Delaware.

The details of this devMeet will be worked out within the coming week or two. I will be constantly updating this journal with new information (and these updates will be popping up in your message center if you watch me), so keep checking back.
